So I use Firefox. I love Firefox. But FireFox is trying to be all cool and shite, and support servers avoiding sharing actual img or png files – instead, the browser will check with the server, then throw up these webp images. I’m sure there’s a great reason…but I don’t care!
There are problems with webp files. My Photoshop can’t even open them to convert them to something more suitable for what I need. So I can’t put them into programs like Poser or put them into my pictures. I saw that some people couldn’t even upload them to sites like Imagur or whatever.
So how do you fix this? Well! Guess who just learned that?!!?
First, I am no professional, so don’t do this and then come to me saying yer browser is now fucked. I ain’t responsible for anything you break in your browser. That being said…
If you open a new tab of Firefox and type in this phrase – about:config – a whole new world opens to you! First, Firefox is gonna say “Are you sure you’re sure about this??” because probably this is access to things that can fuck up your browser. Don’t accept the responsibility if you’re not prepared!
I, of course, was. I’m a queen of fucking shit up and getting out of it, so I went ahead!
An empty ‘page’ of sorts opened with a search bar. In the search bar, you’ll be typing two phrases and checking them.
One phrase is this – image.webp.enabled
Mine said it was ‘true’ – I changed that motherfucker to false! Boom!
The second phrase is this – image.http.accept
Originally it says image/webp,*/* but you can change it, either double clicking or clicking on the Edit pencil icon if there is one. I changed mine to image/webp,/ => /
Guess what? It worked! One page showed up with NO IMAGES anymore, cuz the server wanted to only show me webp things. Fuck that site! Another site gave me the jpg file I hoped and dreamt for. So boom, take that, FireFox!
Here are the sites I used to ‘learn’ about this stuff:
Images won’t save correctly after update
Firefox 65 supports Google’s WebP Image format
EDIT 1: I say 1 cuz I’m sure I’ll be back to show you how to fix what broke! So, now the images on my own damned site aren’t showing up! I’ll figure out how to fix this and return, fear not!
EDIT 2: Okay, so I found another site – How to Disable Saving Images on Webp Format – and I did what they said to do, which was completely remove the entry or whatever in the image:http:accept thing. I hit delete and then clicked the Checkmark icon to accept the change. Reloaded my browser fresh, and my images are back on my site. If I find any other wrongful things, I shall come and let you know!
Told you I weren’t no pro at dis!
